Covering the Youth World Series with Athletx:
I had the opportunity to cover the Youth World Series for Athletx this year, and it was my first time doing so. Having already worked with Athletx for two years on the All-American Games, I felt prepared for the challenge. Though the days were long and hot, I found it to be a lot of fun and worth every moment. To me, it didn't feel like work. Instead, I got to watch thrilling matches, meet fascinating young athletes, and witness countless moments of triumph and celebration.
The Youth World Series takes place in Salisbury, MD, although it is based out of Ocean City. The tournament is held at the Henry Parker Athletic Complex, which boasts 8 baseball and softball fields. During the 2023 event, over 360 teams from 7 different locations participated in the tournament.
Overview of the Tournament Schedule
The tournament will be held over four days, each with its own unique activities.
Day 1: Check-in and the commencement of pool play.
Day 2: Pool play continues, along with exciting skills competitions.
Day 3: The final day of pool play with the transition to bracket play.
Day 4: The championship day, where the ultimate winner will be crowned.
The 4-day long tournament involves each team playing 5 to 9 games, depending on weather conditions, through a unique double-sided bracket system. After each game, opposing coaches nominate players from your team to be named on the Youth World Series All-Tournament Team. Those selected will receive an invitation to participate in the Baseball Youth All-American Games.
